About the Event
Based on the viral poem, braids of all lengths, looks, parts, and styles are explored and cheered on in this vibrant picture book celebrating the versatility of Black hair.Join us at Harlem School of the Arts for a joyful launch event celebrating A Black Girl and Her Braids by Jaylene Clark Owens. The program includes a live poetry performance, a read aloud of her new picture book, and a conversation with Hollis Heath, an award-winning producer, artist, and cultural curator who is also Jaylene’s lifelong friend. Books may be ordered in advance with your RSVP or purchased onsite through Café con Libros. Attendees will have the chance to get signed copies and take photos with the author. Gift bags with products from 4U by Tia, Magic Fingers Institute, and Dosso Beauty will be offered while supplies last. We look forward to welcoming you!
