Published by NYU Press, Black Woman Runner: A Memoir by Tiffany Gayle Chenault is a moving memoir about running through grief, healing, joy, and the complex realities of being a Black woman in a predominantly white running culture.
After the profound loss of her mother, Chenault decided at age 40 to run a half-marathon in all 50 states. Her journey becomes a meditation on movement, identity, community, and resilience.
Described by Chenault as her “twenty-first-century Green Book,” the memoir offers vivid reflections on racial realities encountered across the country while exploring the culture of running—and, more urgently, who gets to run and why it matters.
