Her work challenges traditional narratives around schooling, highlighting how systems of bias shape student experiences and outcomes. Through her writing and organizing, she amplifies marginalized voices and pushes for more equitable and conscious approaches to education. The Classroom Was Never Neutral is part of her broader commitment to reimagining education as a space for justice and transformation.

Rana Abdelhamid, aka the “Mayor of Queens,” is a daughter of Egyptian immigrants, born and raised in Queens. She’s an author, black belt in karate, a lifelong organizer, and the founder of Malikah, a grassroots organization with a storefront in Astoria that offers self-defense, bystander training, and trauma-informed healing to over 20K New Yorkers.
