About the author: Elizabeth Cummins Muñoz holds a doctorate in 20th-century Latin American literature, specializing in Mexican and US Hispanic studies and women’s studies. She is a lecturer at Rice University and lives in Houston, TX, with her family.

About Mothercoin: The Stories of Immigrant Nannies Mexican and Central American women living and working in the private homes of Houston, Texas share their intimate experiences while also telling a larger story about global immigration, working motherhood, and the private experience of this labor created in the U.S. So often their migration to work in the U.S. is filled with the mystery of distance, uncertain or promised returns, and the journey itself is often a collective survival strategy for family back home. Mothercoin weaves together their personal accounts and is an unwavering reminder that “As long as we tell ourselves that this is someone else’s story, immigrant nannies and their children will remain in the shadows, bearing the weight of these unstainable systems on their backs.”
