About the Event

Every Day in the USA: 30 Black Moments is an undisguised portrayal of life in Black America, spearheading conversation to incite change. Award-winning fiction/poetry author, Anika Nailah, connects with those who can relate and raises awareness for those who cannot with C. Andrew Williams' 30 black and white illustrations of everyday racial microaggressions in the USA.

This interactive book event is a healing, uplifting gathering that invites readers to engage with the illustrations in pairs and small groups. They learn the book’s connection to Langston Hughes’ Black Misery legacy, then choose a scenario from 30 Black Moments that speaks to them to create a remix of the illustration, resulting in new captions/dialogue, characters, poetry, illustration, etc., that expresses their own personal stories of resilience and triumph.
