The '90s Family Reunion Book Tour
Time & Location
About the Event
Overview: The '90s Family Reunion Book Tour is a gathering centered around the three Womanist and Hip-Hop music and book releases “but” by Keys of Philadelphia (poetry book & song), “MissUnderstood” by PB&Jtoo (children’s book & song), and “90sHT” by Nasya Marie (teen journal & song). The event includes book readings, an art exhibit, a DJ, and an interactive teen journaling session. The event concludes with conversations centered around womanism, sexism, beauty (and the normative gaze), body positivity, gender roles, sexuality, the abuse to prison pipeline, hip-hop culture, and other topics that affect black women and the black community.
We are intentionally visiting 7 Black women owned-bookstores/venues before the official on sale date in the Spring. We are also making our books available to Black bookstores during our Pre-Sale period to promote cooperative economics within the black community. All advance copies are printed by BCP Digital Printing (Black Classic Press), a historical black-owned printer and publisher in Baltimore.
The art exhibition for the tour is curated by Alana Theard, who recently curated the 400 Years of the Diaspora Traveling Exhibition which was premiered at the Prince George's African American Museum and Cultural Center.
