About the Event
 About the Facilitator:
Nicole Shawan Junior (Smith College BA | Pace University MST | Temple University JD) is a counter-storyteller who was born & bred in the bass-heavy beat & scratch of Brooklyn, where the Bed-Stuy cool of beautiful inner-city life barely survived the crippling caused by crack cocaine. She is a black, queer and hood-born womynxst, felon and former police prosecutor. Her writing has appeared in Gay Magazine (Roxane Gay's platform with Medium), For Harriet, The Feminist Wire and Rigorous Magazine, to name a few. Her work has received support from the Hurston/Wright Foundation, African Voices, Black Film Space, the Black TV & Film Collective, Wildacres Writing Residency, Vanessa Martir's Writing Our Lives, and Nicole Dennis-Benn's Stuyvesant Writers Workshop. Nicole is a Sundress Academy for the Arts (SAFTA) Fellow and a future Lambda Literary Emerging Voices Fellow. She is a 2018 Brooklyn Arts Nonfiction Prize finalist. She's also the creator of the Roots. Wounds. Words. Writing Workshop, as well as the COUNTERpult Reading Series. Learn more by visiting www.NicoleShawanJunior.com
